Mrs. McKenna Rishmawy is a native to Orange County and grew up in Yorba Linda. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Science with Magna Cum Laude honors at Hope International University in Fullerton, and she earned her teaching credential and M.A. in Education there as well. After substitute teaching for local high schools for several years, McKenna enjoyed work in the administrative environment for two years at Red Hill Lutheran School in Tustin. During this time she partnered in ministry with her husband, Derek – whom she married in 2011 – while he served as the college and young adult director at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana.
In 2015, she and Derek moved to the greater Chicagoland area for his PhD program in theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. It was there that McKenna worked at Grace Presbyterian Church of the North Shore in Winnetka, IL for four years, serving as the Director of Connections focusing on communications, volunteers, and events. McKenna cultivated a deeper passion for studying the Bible during this time, and served as the volunteer small group coordinator of an on-campus ministry for the wives of Trinity students.
In 2019 McKenna and her husband were thrilled to return back home to Orange County thanks to a position for Derek with Reformed University Fellowship, the college ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America, where he would be serving at UC Irvine (he’s an alum). Having heard of Pacifica all the way back in Illinois, McKenna sought out a position with Dr. Roberson because it seemed like a perfect fit and she wanted to be part of what was happening there.
McKenna joined the Pacifica family as the yearbook and study hall instructor in August of 2019. At Pacifica, Mrs. Rishmawy most loves getting to know and laugh with every student she meets during study hall, and encouraging their desire to know and understand Christ and His word as it affects their relationships, their future, and their whole personhood.
When not at school, McKenna loves doing ministry with the students of UCI alongside Derek. They love movie nights with friends, exploring southern California, cooking, and reading with a good cup of coffee. McKenna personally dabbles in makeup artistry, loves the desert, and enjoys a good yoga class. She and Derek attend Redeemer Orange County and live in Newport Beach with their cat, Frau Meow.
