Pacifica Christian Hires Two New Coaches

Volleyball[Newport Beach, CA] – Pacifica Christian High School—Orange County is pleased to announce the hiring of Phillip Lopez as the school’s founding Head Coach for Boys Volleyball and Carla Cantralla as the founding Head Coach for Girls Sand Volleyball.

Coach Lopez has five years of local high school coaching experience, serving as the JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at Brethren Christian School from 2011-2013 before moving over to Fairmont Preparatory Academy as their JV Head Coach and top Varsity Assistant Coach from 2013-2015. Coach Lopez is a Mater Dei graduate, having played four years of Varsity Boys Volleyball, helping Mater Dei win a state title in 2009. He then went on to play collegiate volleyball at Hope International University in Fullerton, CA, where he helped guide the Royals to a GSAC championship in 2015 while earning 2nd Team All-GSAC honors.

Carla CantarellaCoach Carla is no stranger to Pacifica Christian Volleyball. She was the Head Assistant Coach for Pacifica’s indoor Volleyball Program this past fall, helping guide Pacifica’s top team to a 13-4 record and a 1st place finish at the Murrieta Valley Invite. Coach Carla was a four-year high school student-athlete at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, CA. While at Edison, she received the Edison High School Scholar Athlete Award her junior and senior year, while helping guide her volleyball team to a Sunset League Title her senior year. Coach Carla then went on to receive a scholarship to play at Vanguard University. Her career was highlighted when she lead the Lady Lions in an upset over then ranked #2 Concordia University her sophomore year, earning GSAC and NAIA player of the week honors.

They are exactly what our program needs to build a foundation that will foster growth, improvement, and the ability to compete at a high level,” stated Megan Glennie, Director of Volleyball for Pacifica Christian High School—Orange County.
