Pacifica Christian partners with The Kids and Dreams Foundation to raise money and awareness for autism
Pacifica Christian High School-Orange County and the Pacifica Athletic Committee (PAC) have partnered with The Kids and Dreams Foundation to help raise money and awareness for autism during Pacifica’s Wedge Week, the school’s first-ever spirit week being held January 25th – 29th. The nationally recognized Kids and Dreams Foundation helps provide support to families and children dealing with the struggles of autism and bullying. PAC, the student-led athletic committee responsible for school spirit surrounding athletics, chose Wedge Week as a platform to raise awareness for this important cause.
“The Kids and Dreams Foundation provides support to children of all ages, and their families, dealing with autism, bullying, and other challenges faced by today’s children. We seek to enrich the lives of the kids by locating and providing the resources that will help each reach their full potential in life,” as stated in The Kids & Dreams Foundation mission statement.
Specially designed, co-branded “Dream Big” t-shirts have been created as the main fundraiser for this event and can be purchased on campus starting Monday, January 25th for $10.00 each. All proceeds will directly benefit The Kids & Dreams Foundation. In addition, Pacifica’s student body has taken the challenge to raise an additional $750.00 during Wedge Week (separate from t-shirt sales) to further bolster the fundraising efforts. If the students reach their goal, Pacifica Christian English teacher and Department Chair, Mr. Hayden Butler, has agreed to shave his beard in honor of their accomplishment.
“I am very proud of our student body, especially our PAC members. They have worked extremely hard planning Wedge Week, working with The Kids & Dreams Foundation, and helping to build Triton Tradition. I look forward to seeing our community rally around these kids, recognizing all their hard work, and helping make this experience one for the history books,” stated Director of Athletics, Brandon Gonzalez.
Wedge Week features daily themes and activities culminating on Friday, January 29th with “Dream Big Day”, a history-making boys basketball game between the Pacifica Orange County Tritons and the Pacifica Santa Monica Seawolves. Students, parents, friends, teachers, and community members are encouraged to don their “Dream Big” t-shirts and join us for special game-time activities, a Taco Truck, raffles, special crowd games and more. Tip-off is 6:30 pm. View the entire Wedge Week schedule here.
The Kids and Dreams Foundation helps introduce and educate families on the importance of a healthy diet, anti-autism bullying programs, neurofeedback and therapy services, biomedical treatments, MAPS Doctors (Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs) and much more. They do this by providing assistance with resources, educational conferences, and financial support to families in need.
