Pacifica Christian Rowing - History in the Making

September 10th, 2018

Pacifica Christian Athletics and the Triton Rowing Program is pleased to announce it will be hosting the first ever rowing regatta in school history, the 2018 Pacifica Christian Rowing Invitational. You are invited to witness history in the making on Saturday, September 29, as your Tritons host Cathedral Catholic High School from San Diego, California. " This is a historical moment for the Triton Athletic Department," said Director of Athletics & Student Life Brandon Gonzalez. "We not only have the first Interscholastic Rowing program in Orange County, but we will also now host the first Interscholastic Regatta in Orange County." The day is set to be filled with multiple races on the water, erg competitions on land, and tons of food and games for the entire family. The whole Pacifica Christian Community is invited to attend the day's events. The first event, the erg competitions, will begin at 8:00 am. Pacifica Christian Rowing, a founding program of the Pacifica Christian Athletic Department in 2015, has shown tremendous growth over the years. Student-Athlete numbers have double for the program, Pacifica hired former National Team Assistant Coach Ian Simpson as Director of Rowing, and with the support of the Pacifica Christian Rowing Community, the Athletic Department purchased two 4+ boats for the rowing program.  In addition to these developments, Pacifica Christian also entered into a partnership with Boys Scouts of Orange County to use their Newport Sea Base Facility as Pacifica's practice facility for the 2018 season. "Rowing is an essential part of our Athletic Department.  Not only is it one of our Founding Programs, but it is also a sport that develops important life skills, including leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance" - Director of Athletics & Student Life Brandon Gonzalez. The program is ready for the upcoming season. Led by upperclassmen Dimitri Kallins, the most experienced rower in the program, Head Coach Ian Simpson will rely on his strength to lead the team vs. Cathedral Catholic on September 29. "Dimitri Kallins is the strongest rower on the team, by far", said Coach Simpson. "He is dedicated to the sport, constantly does the extra work, and is doing an excellent job of learning how to train smarter."  Which in return will help lead and guide the newer rowers on the team.
