2024-2025 Summer Reading

At Pacifica, annual summer reading serves to encourage students to maintain and enjoy an active reading life. We value the written word and hope to foster a shared experience of joy found in literature. Hence, we encourage your family to read the assigned text(s) together to approach this assignment not as homework but as a source for family dinner conversations.

Students need to read the book(s) assigned to their grade and class. They need to be prepared to discuss, write about, and analyze these texts during the first week of school.

To view assignments and purchase texts, click the Summer Reading link, find your student's classes, and then use the ISBN provided and your preferred book provider to purchase. Please purchase the physical-copy text in the edition listed. We do not recommend e-books.

TGC Honors & Scholars

There are many academic challenges that are put before the graduating class of Pacifica. These challenges are met with creativity, talent and determination. For those seniors wishing to graduate with honors, one more challenge is available to them: The Great Conversation (TGC) Honors Program.

TGC Honors means three unique pathways to enhanced learning:

  1. The Liberal Arts path encourages students toward a solid general education with periodic deep dives into the individual subjects.
  2. The STEAM path offers specialization in Science and Maths balanced by languages and the arts.
  3. The Humanities path provides a captivating study of English and History, languages and arts.

Each of these pathways offers a special senior-study project called TGC Scholars, a one-on-one guided project with a faculty advisor. This project will reflect each student’s personal academic journey and interests, and acts as a capstone presentation for their time here.

TGC Honors has been designed not only around rigor, but also with a student’s whole well-being in mind. We are committed to giving students a big world of opportunities along with the wisdom to choose well. To that end, the Honors pathways have been expertly honed so as to avoid any particular year from being overloaded with advanced courses. Here at Pacifica, we believe that Honors should mean the whole-person thrives.

Student Parking Permits

Student Parking Permit Information

Students who desire to drive to school must have a parking permit issued by Pacifica Christian High School. The Parking Permit Application process is described below.

Per our agreement with the City of Newport Beach and surrounding homeowners, parking is NOT permitted on 15th Street or Monrovia Avenue. Students and/or their parents may not solicit permission from Pacifica neighbors to park in their neighborhood. Pacifica is obliged to enforce this agreement by imposing strict disciplinary consequences for those students who do not abide by this agreement. These consequences may include loss of parking permit, Saturday detention, or suspension from school.

By submitting a permit application, the applicant affirms that they read, and agree, to the policies and guidelines listed below. Additionally, all student expectations contained within the school’s Student Handbook are also applicable in Pacifica’s parking lots.

At all times, we ask Pacifica students and families to be mindful of our neighbors. This can be accomplished by keeping noise to a minimum, respecting property lines, and adhering to all traffic laws.

Student parking is a privilege and will be revoked if a student does not adhere to the Student Parking Policies and Guidelines at all times. The student is solely responsible for knowing and abiding by these guidelines.

Parking Permit Application Dates

In May of each year, Pacifica publishes its Parking Permit Application for the next school year. The initial application window runs from May to June (specific dates will be announced each year).

If the number of applications exceeds the number of available parking spaces, permits are awarded through a lottery system. If parking spaces are still available after the initial applications are processed, the application will be re-opened for Seniors and Juniors and permits will then be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Student parking permits are reserved for Senior and Junior students only. Sophomore and Freshman students are not allowed to drive to Pacifica and must be dropped off and picked up to avoid parking congestion on Pacifica's neighboring streets.

Applicants will receive an e-mail notification regarding the status of their application to their Pacifica email addresses in early August. If the student is issued a parking permit, they will be required to turn in a photocopy of the student's Driver's License and a $150 parking permit fee will be added to the student's Blackbaud Tuition Management account (formerly Smart Tuition). Only when these two items are completed will the student be issued a Student Parking Permit.

SPECIAL NOTE: Parking permits are only awarded to students who have their licenses. Incoming Seniors and Juniors who are scheduled to take their drivers test before the school year starts may apply in the initial application window with the following provisions:

  1. Should the applicant be awarded a parking permit, they must be licensed before the first day of instruction for the new school year.
  2. If the applicant does not have their license, their permit will be lost and may be awarded to another licensed applicant.
