Last year, Science and Math teacher, Kevin Ringette, briefly shared with his students about his experience volunteering at Royal Family Kids Camp, a week-long annual camp for kids who have been removed from their homes and placed in Child Protective Services. After sharing his experiences and how it has affected him, he cautiously informed the students of the camp's need for more volunteers and even advised them that this was not a "fun and games" situation, but serious work that required 14 hours of mandatory training to participate. Leaving students with that somewhat onerous description, Mr. Ringuette explained that anyone interested should please email him later. To his delighted surprise, he received 15 emails in response. Some arrived that day; others weeks later. Some even came from Pacifica students who were not in his classes, but had heard about it from those who were. Mr. Ringuette was amazed that the young people at Pacifica would consider spending their precious summer time in this way.  

After thorough vetting through emails, interviews, and training, nine Pacifica students were among the camp's fifty volunteers. Of the many roles they filled, each and every one was completed with such excellence that the whole community of volunteers deemed it the best camp the community had ever held. Even more impactful than their work ethic and skill, the Pacifica students demonstrated their love for the campers and carried hearts that were broken on behalf of the foster youth. Each foster youth advocate who attended the camp was so impressed that they exchanged information with the Pacifica students hoping they might be led to serve in other capacities in our local area.

Our community at Pacifica is truly blessed by the servant hearts of these and so many other exceptional students.
