Pacifica’s Speech & Debate Takes Home Multiple Wins
November 1st, 2023
On Saturday, October 28, Pacifica Christian High School’s Speech & Debate team participated in the first tournament of the season and kicked off this year’s competition with great success! Pacifica’s team went up against six schools across several categories of speech and debate and took home five different awards. These include first place overall in Impromptu speaking (Victoria Hilbert), a competitive category in which Tritons also snagged 3 of the top 4 placings (Hilbert, Kailee Cohn, and Joy Maris). Tritons also landed on the podium in Lincoln-Douglas debate (Seth Wong) and in Dramatic Interpretation (Kailee Cohn).
Now in only its second year, the Triton Speech & Debate team has grown to include 21 students competing in 8 categories. As the only Christian school competing on the Orange County public circuit, Pacifica is proud to represent a distinct vision of winsome communication, characterized by gratia et veritas—both grace and truth. Competitive successes like these are a testimony to what makes Triton Speech & Debate unique: a commitment not only to technique and theory, but to the value of “walking in wisdom” and “letting [our] speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt…” (Col. 4:5-6).
Coming up next weekend, the Tritons will take on an even bigger challenge at the Orange County Fall Open, where 15 schools will face off at Fullerton Union High School.
