A Visit to the Fieldstead Art Gallery
January 22nd, 2025
On Wednesday, January 22nd, Pacifica’s AP Art students had the lovely privilege of traveling to the Fieldstead Art Gallery in Irvine to see an exhibit entitled “Face Value.” The exhibit features an eclectic mix of portraiture from the 14th century up to the present day across a variety of media from oil paintings, to woodcuts, to sculptures. The students received a private tour of the exhibit, followed by free time to investigate individual works that they found intriguing. Upon departure, each student was gifted a commemorative book about the show! There were many smiles and much discussion on the way home. It was a truly stimulating experience that will surely lead to renewed interest in the creative process and the pursuit of beauty.
Upon our return, the students were asked about the art pieces they found most inspiring and, remarkably, the answers were very wide ranging. Everyone experienced a moving and independent reaction to the beauty set before them. The unanimous response was gratitude and a desire for this experience to become a part of our tradition in AP art and design.
