Director of Visual and Performing Arts Announced

Pacifica Christian High School-Orange County announces the appointment of Leslee Myers as the founding Director of Pacifica’s Visual and Performing Arts Program and its first performing arts teacher. Ms. Myers recently returned to Southern California after spending two years at New York University, where she was involved in the dynamic environment of New York theatre and earned a Masters Degree in Educational Theatre. Prior to her time in New York, Ms. Myers spent five years teaching theatre, literature, and music at the high school level. "The Apostle Paul exhorted the Philippians to 'dwell on what is lovely.' At its best, the arts allow us to do just that—to take in the lovely, the beautiful, the noble. Through the arts, Pacifica students develop an appreciation for beauty while also creating beautiful things,” says David O’Neil, Head of School. “God spoke our world into existence and called it good. In the image of our creator we were made to create and to be creative. To communicate all that is true, good, and beautiful. Ms. Myers brings to Pacifica both the passion and experience to lead an Arts Program that will embody two basic human desires—a desire for what is beautiful and a desire to create." Ms. Myers has extensive experience in theatre direction, production, and writing as well as an impressive musical background, including playing multiple instruments and forming and leading choirs.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to develop a Visual and Performing Arts Program for Pacifica-Orange County,” says Ms. Myers. “Southern California is an important location for visual and performing art.  Our students must be ready to understand and engage the arts—and even more importantly, to enjoy art. It is critical to provide them a creative environment where they can discover their talents while being nurtured by mature, faithful adults."

Leslee Myers Bio
Leslee Myers is an arts educator, director, dramaturg, musician, playwright, and choir director. She is a proud seventh generation Californian who recently returned to her home state after earning a Master of Arts degree in Educational Theatre at New York University, graduating with honors in May 2014.  While attending NYU, she worked as a Student Assistant and Teaching Assistant for the Educational Theatre Faculty, working with some of the top practitioners in the field, and served as a Teaching Artist in the community, forging partnerships with arts organizations. Since returning to California, she has begun a second Masters program at California State University, Fullerton pursing an M.A. in History, studying Cultural History and examining the effects of society on the arts in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Prior to her time at NYU, Ms. Myers taught Literature, Music, and Theatre at the high school level for a number of years in Southern California and Seattle, Washington.  She developed theatre and literature curriculums, revitalized music programs, and established a theatre program. She believes in an encouraging learning experience that inspires students to pursue creative endeavors by prompting them to inquire, observe, and create. Ms. Myers received Bachelors degrees in both Theatre and English from Concordia University, Irvine, where she focused on British Literature and Creative Writing. In addition to her academic and theatre pursuits, she is also an accomplished musician playing the flute, handbells, and bassoon. Ms. Myers enjoys spending time with her family, doing volunteer work, attending performances and museums, reading, photography, traveling, and going on weekend adventures with her three dogs, Beowulf, Becks, and Schenna.  She is a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Brea.
