Pacifica Mourns the Loss of an Artistic Giant and Friend

January 9th, 2025

Peter Brandes died on January 4th, 2025. He was 80 years old. Brandes was a Danish painter and sculptor, who worked in stained glass and ceramics. He is perhaps most famous for his work on St. Andrew’s chapel at the Roskilde Cathedral, his Urns and stained glass pieces at the Village of Hope, the Library at St. Michael’s Abbey, and his resurrection relief wall and stained glass at Biola University’s Calvary chapel

Pacifica had the privilege of hosting Peter and his wife, Maja Lisa Englehardt, in the Spring of 2022 where they attended every single art class for the day and spoke with students and teachers alike about what it means to be artists, and the importance of art and beauty for human flourishing, as well as what it means to make sacred art, in particular. We were so grateful and overwhelmed to have time with them, and we are deeply saddened that Peter’s light has gone out of the world. He was a wonderful storyteller, and quite the character. Our students and faculty alike loved learning from him and we send our love and prayers to his lovely wife, Maja Lisa.

Requiescat in pace
