A New Venue for the All-School Retreat

May 30th, 2019

Integral to thinking and living well is the community in which it is pursued. Pacifica encourages its students to live abundant and joyful lives, marked by giving and receiving grace. They work smart, play hard, and take risks.

An overnight retreat in September is an annual highlight for students and faculty alike. Playing, worshiping, community building, trying new good things, and welcoming new students create a memorable start to the academic year.

Last fall, we were notified our retreat center in San Diego was to be sold this spring. Immediately our team began a regional search for a new venue (alongside many other like-minded schools throughout our area). In our search we looked for four key characteristics:

  1. A culture of abundance;
  2. An open layout that encourages shared experiences and new connections;
  3. Opportunities for fun and personal growth; and
  4. A space we can grow into, and that does not require shared use with other schools.

After several months of research, we choose the Young Life High School Camp, Lost Canyon, located in Williams, Arizona. Below is an overview of the exciting changes coming to the 2019 Annual Retreat:

  • Horseback riding
  • Mountain bike riding
  • Ropes course
  • The Heist - giant wing drop
  • A zip line into a lake
  • A Blob on the lake
  • Full gymnasium
  • Multiple water slides
  • And so much more!

We continually look for new opportunities to enhance our student’s experience with the Pacifica Continuum,  and we believe this new retreat center is a wonderful example of this pursuit.
